REPORT: GPS 3RD GIRL CHILD CONFERENCE

So, this year, Team GPS held their 3rd GIRL CHILD CONFERENCE in Northern Nigeria, marking the International Day of The Girl. We celebrated girls in Kwara State on this day, 11th October, 2018 with the theme ”THE EMPOWERED GIRL” coined from the theme of the International Day of the Girl (EMPOWER HER: BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER DISASTER)

Our Guest Speaker, @Monique Pettaway did justice to the topic as she interacted with the girls one- on- one, giving them life examples on Being Empowered.
She broke the theme into bits and pieces and at the end of her short interaction, the girls had so many mind blowing questions for her.

According to Monique Pettaway, to be a Empowered Girl, you must:
1. Know Your Value and Worth. The Empowered Girl doesnt let her peers dictate to her. She says NO to Peer Pressure
2. Speak your mind and Express your opinios. Do not be afraid to share your Voice. Your opinions matter.
3. Stand up for what you believe in. If you dont stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.
4. Be willing to be a Leader
5. You must have a Goal, Go for the Goal. If you dont have a Plan, you Fail. Set Deadlines for your Goal.
6. Figure out what you are good at. Your Strength. Your gift was given to you for a Purpose.
7. Be Measurable.

  1. It’s important to empower every girl to be purpose driven. It’s not just her facing her dreams but being the mirror of the society where evenryone can stand for change. Girls need skills, Constant membership, safe spaces and lots of others that can widen their minds to divers thoughts.
